tour of Greece after the coup and invasion of 1974. The play was also
performed at the open-air cinema «Montaldo» in Morphou.

The play was directed by Heinz Uwe Haus,
an artist whose work includes productions for the Berliner Ensemble, the
theatre run for many years by Brecht himself.
ΟTHELLO, by William Shakespeare, 1979
The first performance took place in
Dheryneia on 14 July 1979. The performance acted as a symbol of the coup
and Turkish invasion on 15 and 20 July 1974 and was staged as close as
possible to occupied Famagusta which is the setting for Shakespeare’s
play.
SUPPLIANT WOMEN, by Euripides, 1978
A play of
special significance in THOC’s history. With this production, THOC took
part in the Festival of Epidaurus for the first time (30 July, 1 August
1980), and the play was first presented at the Athens Festival, at the
Lycabettus Theatre (18 and 19 August 1979) The reviews by Lignadis,
Georgousopoulos, Margaritis and others, were indicative of the quality
of N. Charalambous’s production, which was complemented by the exquisite
designs of George Ziakas and the ritualistic music of M. Christodoulides.
LYSISTRATA, by Aristophanes, 1981
Τhe play was presented in an excellent
translation in the Cypriot dialect by the great Cypriot poet Costas
Montis.
ELECTRΑ, by Sophocles, 1983
A production directed by Michalis
Cacoyiannis and featuring a host of personalities of the Greek arts:
translated by the writer George Chimonas, starring Irene Pappas in the
title role, sets by the sculptor Takis, costumes by Marina Karella and
music by Vangelis Papathanasiou.

The first production of a dance-drama, a
THOC - Goerlitz Theatre co-production. The play, inspired by the tragedy
by Sophocles, was based on a dramaturgic proposal by Andy Bargilly. This
first mixed production heralded THOC’s intention to include dance-drama
among its activities.
