Akanthiotis: a play characterized by the beauty of the language and the

the professional and amateur theatre stages in Cyprus. After it was
written in 1938 it was produced numerous times all over the island and
was loved by audiences in towns and villages, from Trachoni to Kythrea,
and from Agioi Omologites to Kakopetria.
The Cyprus Theatre Organization produces the play, with a group of
selected group of cast and crew. The premiere of this soul-touching play
will be on Wednesday, July 13th .
The Love of Marikkou is written in the Cypriot dialect, and the story
unfolds in a village. It deals with a favotire topic, the love of the
poor shepherd Ttasi, with Marikkou, the daughter of the rich magistrate.
The story ends in a dynamic way, with an elopement of Marikkou by Ttasis
from Nicosia and an unworthy potential husband.
The production is filled with music, song and dance; the play is
directed by Eftychios Poullaides. The stage and costume design is
by Elena Katsouri, Evagoras Karagiorgis has composed the music
and the songs are a creation if both Evagoras Karagiorgis and
Achilleas Limbourides. Charalambos Charalambous oversaw the
choreography and Karolina Spyrou designed the lights.
