The Cyprus Theatre Organisation is organising a 4-day musical theatre coaching seminar for professional actors on April 16, 17, 18 and 19 from 12:00 – 17:00 at the THOC theatre (old GSP).
The seminar will focus on:
- Improving vocal abilities at polyphonic levels (from dance in ancient drama to musicals).
- Practice in combining song with intense movement (choreography).
- Proper use of the diaphragm for better breathing which is the main driving force of the voice.
- Reflexes, cooperation, codes of communication through music.
- Pace-prose-song and their interaction in the theatre.
Melina Peonidou:
Born in Nicosia, she began piano lessons at the age of 6. When she was 17 she won first prize for children's songwriting at the Pancyprian Music Competition. That same year she was awarded a scholarship to Moscow's TCHAIKOVSKY Conservatory in "Choir Conducting" from which she graduated six years later with honors and received the title of MASTER OF ARTS-CHORAL CONDUCTING. She took an active role in many choral conducting seminars given by German professor and conductor Helmut Riling in Russia, Germany and the United States. Following her studies, she worked for a short time as a teacher at high schools around Cyprus.
In 1993, after receiving a personal invitation from Mikis Theodorakis, she travelled to Athens, where she worked as a conductor and assistant conductor of ERT (Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation) choir. During her career she has taught many symphonic and choral productions that were staged at the Athens Concert Hall, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus and abroad.
In 1995 she joined the National Theatre of Greece, where she works to this day. She teaches music at the different platforms of the National Theatre of Greece and is also involved in vocal coaching and training. In addition, from 1996 to this day she holds the post of professor of musical instruction at the Higher Drama School of the National Theatre.
She has collaborated with many directors and composers, Greek and foreign, in more than 85 performances, 25 of which were staged at the ancient theatre of Epidaurus.
Symbolic participation fee: 6 euros.
