Surtitled Performances in English and Turkish in December

Νέα

The Surtitled performances in English and Turkish, for the opening productions of the Cyprus Theatre Organisation, in December are scheduled on the following dates:

New Stage
The palace of the end by Judith Thompson

The play consists of three monologues of actual people who are associated with the Iraq war.
The heroes are Lynndie England, a United States Army reservist, Dr David Kelly, a British weapons inspector, and Nehrjas Al Saffarh, an Iraqi mother and member of the Iraqi Communist Party.

“The palace of the End”, a perfect combination of hard poetry and lyric narration, grasps the fragility of human beings and moves by its clear statement about war: there is no winner. Whichever side we may take, we lose. Women, children, men, soldiers, politicians…we are all vulnerable. The play is also about our responsibility in issues of conflict, about our ignorance and fear for the ‘other’, and about a society of lies.

Stage 018
I, the Prince by Vassilis Myrianthopoulos

In this alternative ‘pop opera’ for children, which is staged for the first time at THOC’s Stage 018, every child, depending on its age, interprets each piece of the story differently. Children are offered the opportunity to exist through and beyond well-known fairy tales, to listen to many and various music rhythms, dance, songs, and to recognise familiar symbols. In this way, they will begin to appreciate the glory of simplicity and will enjoy the biggest fairy tale of all – life itself!

Main Stage
Loxandra by Maria Iordanidou
The theatre adaptation is based on the book Loxandra by Maria Iordanidou, an Estia publication

Written in 1963, “Loxandra” by Maria Iordanidou is one of the most popular novels in Modern Greek Literature. Directed by Efi Theodorou, dramatised by Savvas Kyriakides, and performed by a fifteen-member cast, “Loxandra” is to be staged for the first time at THOC’s Main Stage. Loxandra’s character is acted by Elisavet Constantinidou.

Loxandra lived in that old, beloved city, Constantinople.

A chorus of young actors allows us to walk in the footsteps of her real-fictional life. The presence of the chorus is a recurrent motif of the performance that draws a link between the past and the present, giving a new dimension to the story.
