As part of the “Your World: empowering young people through the arts and theatre” programme

Last April, the “Youth on a deserted island” theatre workshop culminated in an original production on the topic of addiction. Due to the great response of the audience, it will be performed twice more on 22 and 23 September.

“The greatest – and the worst – addiction is to live a life without meaning, to live each day without meaning... They say that addiction can be cured by human relationships..."

A group of teenagers set out to study the common and much-discussed issue of addiction. They take on a research role, but as the performance progresses, their questions grow, and they all become personally invested in their work. No one can remain uninvolved or fail to question themselves. On stage, research and statistics will give way to human testimonies and the confessions of themselves and their friends, as they attempt to understand and solve the problem. Yet even if they are unable to find all the answers by the end, at least they will have found each other.

Following the methodology of devised theatre and documentary theatre, the young people of “Youth on a deserted island” created this show literally from nothing.

The production is the result of the "Creating a performance" theatre workshop for teenagers aged 14-18, designed and run by Irene Andreou and Giannis Karaoulis with movement teaching by Panayiotis Tofi, which was held from October 2022 to April 2023.
