by Suzanne Lebeau

Νέα

Direction: Yiannis Karaoulis

Surtitled performance | 30 October, English/Turkish surtitles

Following the warm welcome received by the production Dr. Korczak’s Example by David Greig, the artistic team bringing to life the Series of projects 2020-2021: “Young on a Desert Island” develops its creative course in the Theatre Apothikes at THOC, with the presentation of the theatre play The Sound of Cracking Bones by Suzanne Lebeau.

And what about the other children, all the other children,

the girls and the boys, at the age of seven, ten, fifteen,

where should we send them

after we take the guns away from them?

At school or in prison for war crimes?

How must we treat them?

As victims or as perpetrators?

In a country ravaged by civil war, two minor children, Elikia and Joseph watch their lives being rapidly overturned. A wandering journey for survival unfolds from the moment of their recruitment to their escape towards freedom. The narration of Angelina, the nurse who offers them shelter, sheds light on the path of this journey.

The Canadian author Suzanne Lebeau describes the cruel reality the children-soldiers experience in their struggle to survive, caught in the vortex of war. The director gives prominence to the issue of lost puerility, in the context of a poetic atmosphere, confronting the audience with questions about justice and ethics.
